Windsurf Cascade

Windsurf Cascade describes a structured way of using multiple AI steps in a sequence to solve complex problems, where each step refines or builds on the previous one. Think of it as a pipeline: one stage might plan the overall approach, the next writes code, another tests and checks for errors, and a final stage cleans up or documents the results. By breaking a big task into smaller passes, this approach helps catch mistakes early and improves the quality of the final output. It also allows different models or tools to specialize on parts of the process, for example one focusing on logical planning and another on precise code generation. This setup matters because no single model is perfect at every part of a complex job, and a cascade lets strengths be combined while mitigating individual weaknesses. The cascade idea also makes it easier to insert verification and safety checks, which reduces the risk of serious errors. However, it can increase processing time and cost because multiple steps run in sequence, and designers must carefully manage how information flows between stages. When done well, the result is more reliable automation that can handle nuanced tasks that would be hard for a single pass of an AI system to complete on its own.
